Uncompromising illumination system for use in greenhouses

The illumination of plants in greenhouses poses a variety of demands on the lighting system. Alongside reliable protection against environmental influences, the shadowing of the luminaire itself also plays a decisive role. Moreover, the installation conditions in each greenhouse are different.

The P4 Series is our answer to these demanding and diverse requirements.

The P4 is available with two different light spectra in order to make the morphogenesis of the various crop plants based upon the customer’s wishes. The P4 series is also available with different radiation characteristics, even in different installation situations, with a targeted and homogeneous distribution of light.

In addition, there are different positions of the LED driver to choose from. In this way, installation costs can be saved and the system can be perfectly integrated into existing installations. Of course, the P4 can also be ordered as a dimmable version.

Each product version of the P4 has its own particular advantages. They all share very good efficiency levels of 2.9μmol/j up to 3.3μmol/J as well as perfect and adjustable light control. Due to the slimline design of the P4 series, shadows cast by the luminaire are kept to a minimum.

Light distribution

We provide 2 different kinds of beam angles for the P4 series. In this way, it is possible to perfectly adjust the light to the mounting height and the shape of the cultivation area.

• Symmetrical beam angle of 90°
• Asymmetrical beam angle of 30°/90°

Light spectra

The light spectrum has a very big influence on the photomorphogenesis of plants. For this reason, we offer two different light spectra in the P4 series.

Light spectrum S1

Broadband light spectrum which is above all preferable at high light intensity levels. For natural growth and colour. Due to its warm white light tone, this light spectrum is unproblematic to use in the selling section of nurseries and garden centres.

• Growth pattern identical to growth in sunlight

• Emission wavelength area: 400nm – 760nm
Typical applications:
• Assimilation light for very wide range of uses
• Suitable for all plant species and stages of growth
• Suitable as interfering light as well
• Recommendable for high PPFD/high light intensities, e.g. for cultivation without daylight

Light spectrum S2
Discrete light spectrum with emission peaks at 450nm and 660nm. This light spectrum causes compressed plant growth and is therefore perfect for the breeding of parent plants under glass.
• Narrow band spectrum with focus on blue and red
• Targeted explicitly at chlorophyll A and B
• Violet shade
• No natural rendering of plant colour
• Monochromatic emission peaks at 450nm and 660nm

Typical applications:
• Assimilation illumination for special applications
• Compact morphogenesis
• Not recommended if people spend a long time in the cultivation area

The P4 series is available both as a dimmable and non-dimmable version. The dimmable version is equipped with a light control. The following signals can be used for dimming the P4 luminaire:
• 0 – 10V voltage signal
• 20kΩ – 100kΩ (20-100%)
• 10V PWM-Signal (frequency range: 100Hz-3kHz)

For smaller installations or when luminaires are changed regularly in one location, we recommend using the P4 with an external driver. In the case of larger installations, the version with a driver placed on it would be preferable.

In summary, I can say that I have understood that by using these LED lights, the cultivator is provided with illumination requirements that were up till now not possible in the “dark months” of the year. The practice test has shown that not only can these LED lights replace the existing HPS lamps without any disadvantages, but they are also able to equip you with completely new opportunities.

In our nursery, we cultivate a variety of crops, even ones that are seldom cultivated at this latitude. We will use LED lights for many of these cultures in the future, to positively influence quality and flowering times. In addition, arguments such as improved light distribution and less shade as a result of a slim lamp design, clearly speak for these LED lights.
