Better spectrum, better quality
At our research partner “Research a Plant”, the influence of the light spectrum on the cannabinoid content was tested. Identical cannabis cuttings were grown under the same conditions until harvest.
20% more cannabinoids under SANlight light spectrum
Our research partner Research a Plant has grown the strain “Cannatonic” on behalf of SANlight and BIONOVA. The aim of the experiment was to investigate different growth and flowering behavior under the same amount of light, but under different light spectra.
Experiment setup:
- In one experimental room, one plant table with 64 plants each was illuminated by SANlight Led Grow Lights and one table was illuminated by Gavita 600W HPS lights.
- The plants were exposed to identical climatic conditions and were supplied with the same fertilizer (Bio Nova). Bio Nova Coco Mix plus served as substrate.
- The cuttings were taken from the same mother plants and planted in 9l pots. Watering was done via a drip irrigation system.
Experiment parameters:
Time period PPFD for HPS and LED Power HPS Power SANlight LED Day temperature daily relative humidity PH Nl. EC Nl.
- Vegetative phase day 1 – 14 280µmol/m2/s 1292W 752W 24°C 75% 6,0 0,8
- Vegetative phase day 15 – 21 350µmol/m2/s 1601W 940W 25°C 70% 6,0 1,0
- Generative phase day 22 – 36 450µmol/m2/s 2013W 1208W 26°C 65% 5,8 1,3
- Generative phase day 37 – 85 600µmol/m2/s 2684W 1610W 28°C 60% 5,8 1,4
Result:
Despite identical light intensity, the plants under SANlight LED developed 30% more flower weight. The cannabinoid content of the plants grown under LED was more than 20% higher than in the comparison plants under HPS lights. In addition, the terpenes showed a significant difference in terpene profile. For a more detailed insight, we have attached the analyses from the laboratory below.
