Maximum Yield: With the new SANlight EVO-Series

This is the second article about our series of tests to optimise yields with the SANlight EVO-Series.

This article is the documentation of another experiment on the topic of yield optimisation in indoor production. As in the previous experiment, Blog: Proof of Concept, we have grown Cannabis Sativa L. plants under different light intensities in our laboratory. The aim of this series of experiments is to find out up to which light intensity the yield still increases.

For legal reasons, we have to point out at this point that the cultivation of Cannabis Sativa L. is not legal in all countries. Inform yourself about the legal situation in your country before you imitate this experiment. The experiment shown here complies with the legal regulations in Austria, where this experiment was conducted.

Research question

Does more light also mean more weight? This is the question to be answered in this experiment. The aim is to find out up to which light intensity the yield of Cannabis Sativa L. plants still increases. In detail, the following questions are to be answered with this experiment.

  • Does an exposure intensity of Ø 1,100µmol/m²/s lead to significantly more yield than an exposure intensity of Ø 900µmol/m²/s?
  • Does an exposure intensity of Ø 900µmol/m²/s lead to significantly more yield than an exposure intensity of Ø 700µmol/m²/s?
  • At what Ø PPFDe is the maximum yield per area achieved?
  • At which Ø PPFDe is the best gram/watt ratio achieved?

Methodology

The entire experiment was carried out in a room with constant climatic conditions. In this room there are several breeding boxes with the dimensions 240x120x220cm. The room air is conveyed into the individual breeding boxes via an active ventilation system. The used air is transported directly out of the breeding boxes via an exhaust air system. The experiment was carried out simultaneously in three of these breeding boxes.

  • Nutrient supply via drip irrigation system fed from a central tank
  • Supplementary hand watering to respond to different nutrient needs
  • Nutrients Mills
